Games times and Gold medals

we'll here it is, i have seen two gold medals being won now, one of them being the first gold medal won this olympics by canadians and also the first ever won on canadian soil....lets say it was pretty bad ass. The second was about 2 hours ago at womens speed skating, another amazing moment, no one thought we would and she came out of no were to have the skate of her life. Secondly i got to watch shawn white shatter the half pipe last night and see some the best riders in the world strut there stuff and i got to watch from in front of the front row....you know the people that pay 2000 dollars to sit in the front...i sat in front of them....hahahaha! But even better as im sitting in the catering tent in compound i look up to see one of my skiing idols walk buy me....Johnny Mosely!!!!!! what...okay it doesn't stop! So now im watching the mens half pipe and i look over and who is sitting in the NBC area.....TONY HAWK....the greatest skate boarder in history....the god father of the extreme sport movement. So then i stand up on a chair to take a picture of the medals ceremonies and and who gets up on the chair beside....FUCKING TONY HAWK!!! PS i have a picture of me and Tony hawk now!!!!!!!!! what up!!!!! From the heinikin house to winning golds and meeting my child hood idols this is probably the greatest time of my life...like common who thought a little cleft lip kid who got picked on from pickering ontario would ever get a opportunity like this!!! cause i never did. maybe good things do happen to good people!

opening ceremonies

we'll tonight is the big night, we all get dressed up in our finest work wear and head off to the opening ceremonies...im a little foggy still from last night and granville street and a little place called the roxy! Oh how Brodie loves the roxy....wink wink. Im hoping it doesn't rain today, i havnt opened my blinds and and i refuse to untill i walk out the door. Hopefully everything goes we'll today cause if so it means my day will be pretty easy. It rained like crazy yesterday and it was looking pretty grim up at cypress, im not sure how there gonna hold a race in the rain but i guess they will...our slogan for this olympics is..the greenest games ever!

cypress

we'll i got lucky and my venue is cypress...thats were all the action will be happening for all readers...aka...half pipe, moguls, ariels, boarder cross and skier cross and dual slalom...all the cool events. ITs a huge venue and ive been doing homework at night to prep for the next day but the charm is that when the games start im the one that has to stand slopside to make sure the cables are okay...wink wink!!! ya baby....yup gotta go check out that cable at the mens freestyle start...oh look it might need me to stand here and watch it for an extended period of time!! hahaha...we'll as long as i don't mess the install up everything will be cool. But good news cypress is getting snow tonight right down to compound...it started as we were leaving and it was think wet snow that builds up fast so lets keep our fingers crossed cause they need it!!! anyways im going for drinks il put some pics up tomorrow!

new gear

we'll we finally got done or first venue in the city...it feels great! we are tired and slowly getting over or sicknesses. we finally got almost half a day off today and it was great, we went to mec and got our rain gear so next time in decides to rain for 2 weeks straight we don't have to be wet the entire time. Tomorrow we start figure skating which is a much smaller job then opening ceremonies was and a lot simpler. we are still waiting on the word for cypress but it sounds like its a go at this time.....but the fact that we can see dirt patches on the upper mountain from the city is a very good sign...lol.

anyways ill up date soon!

sliding center and callaghan Valley

we'll sorry for the wait people, but i had some moving and drinking to do which some what put a damper on the ole blogging thing.

I am back in whistler right now and we spend the first two days cabling the Sliding Center ( luge and boblsed) That was pretty cool cause they were doing training on the track at the time so we got to see how fast these people go. And seeing how the track is the officially the fastest in the world....when a little kid goes buy you at 140 kph well lets say i don't have good picks cause my camera isn't fast enough...lol. Apparently they have had to slow the top men down cause they are going right off the end of the track....haha. So i officially got to witness my first puking of snow....it snowed wet heavy crud for 2 days straigh and didn't let up for a second, it was pretty cool.

As of today we were off to callaghan valley were they are holding the ski jump and all the nordic events...(aka biathalon, cross country skiing) it is probably one of the most beautiful areas i have ever been....we'll everywhere here is more beautiful then i have ever seen its been so cool. Not much to comment about the valley just really flat and snowmobiles everywere trying to get things ready. Ski jumping is crazy steep the TV doesn't do it any justice at all...its soooooo friggen huge and steep it would be really awesome to see them do it live.

Tonight we have a shindig at billy bobs with vanoc and some other crews so were are all looking forward to that and i also go pick up my new freeride back country skiis in about we'll as soon as im done doing this!!! hahaha there pretty bad ass....Kurt there the rossignol S3 with revers camber at the tips for floating in powder!!!!

As of tomorrow we are back on the ski hill to finish off creekside and downhill venues.

a better day

So today has been a nice day i decided despite the rain that i was gonna get up and go for a run and i found a great little 4km gravel travel that runs beside a salmon right here in a burnaby! its wonderful and secluded but right down town...and i also got to use my new gps watch for the first time as we'll. Feeling a lot better now that i got some exercise and hopefully i will have access to our gym here soon.

Our crew shows up today and we will be heading to check out the IBC for the first time which is always a fun day.

Oh and i Found a place i rent a road bike from so i can ride into the mountains when i have a clear sunny day off...hahaha ya right!

rain rain and more rain

we'll this place is insane...it has rained for 3 days now and the weather forcast calls for i think 7 more days. we'll thats as far as the weather report shows. I was supposed to go skiing at whistler but its been raining to the top of the mountain for 4 days now. And seeing how ski passes are 91 dollars i decided to save my money for later.

But i did get to go to granville island yesterday and go out downtown for for dinner. I have to say its probably the most beautiful downtown core i have ever seen. And granville island, wow what a way to spend an afternoon, you have to take a little tugboat accross then they have all these little markets with probably the best food you have ever seen. I didn't buy any yet cause i am moving to whistler soon but man im gonna go back as soon as we get our vehicles and do a big shop.

so for now i am sitting in my apartment waiting for the rain to stop, or at least die down a bit so i can go outside and wander around. Its just to windy and heavy rain for my gear, id be soaked to the bone in a heart beat. Maybe i should have taken back that expensive goretex jacket!!!!

first day in Van

We'll the apartment is great...im on the 19th floor and so far can't see much cause its been raining since i got to vancouver. Today we attempted to ski whistler but we got there and it was raining all the way into the high alpine so we had breakfast then turned around and came back...its supposed to rain for the next week in van but the forcast says its supposed to dump 50 - 60 cm of snow at mid mountain and up starting sunday night so i might be heading up to whis for two days starting on sunday night. Today i got some grocerings, and i am still yet to meet my room mate but apparently he is a pretty cool guy.

Then at about 6 i have to take a stab the the sky train and try and make way across the city to see and old friend of mine.

So other then that im just relaxing and enjoying the awesome weather.

Suddam Couloir

We'll today I got to live out a child hood dream...close to 15 years ago we took a trip to BC and travelled everywhere and one of the stops was blackcomb.
We took a chair to the top were they were skiing on the horstman glacier and i ask the guide which is one of the crasiest runs...and he walked us across a ledge and we looked over a shoot that went into the glacier bowland he told me that it was called the Saddam couloir and that it was the run to ski it is surrounded by two rock faces with a shoot about 30 feet wide and about 1000 feet long...and at that moment it was a life long goal to ski the suddam.
Today at about 2 oclock i passed the horstman hut and found myself with tip of my skis hanging over the cornis that drops in the coluoir...with the help of my friend ashley and one jump turn later i found myself fulfilling a life long dream, as the snow of each turn crumbled and passed me on the hill i linked turn after turn untill i found myself at the bottom and looked up at a near vertical wall call the Suddam colouir and realized that this just might have been the greatest ski run of my life!!that was only the second half of my day the first half of my day started with trackless un touched powder up to your knees from top to bottom of whistler...so today i fullfilled two lifelong goals...and the second was skiing untouched mountain powder and i gotta say it really is all its cracked up to be...

So whistler has been amazing and i can't wait to get back january!!!
the couloir is the run to the left of the peak were the shadow line is! apparantly i just read that its actually 2500 feet to the bottom of the bowl and they designate this run a no fall run because a fall can cause serious inury or death!

3rd Day of cabling

we'll its been fun couple of days on the mountain, our crew is starting to get the swing of things and starting to get out cabling legs. The conditions are finally starting to let up and get a little bit warmer. Allthough its still very icy, we are expecting 30 - 40 centimeters over the next three days which will be very welcome after all the ice. Today we are going out for a birthday celebration for a good friend on one of the other crews....other than that i will keep you posted once we get some more snow and get some fun skiing in!!!

Monday, December 7, 2009

we'll its a short blog today! but i got to ski the high alpine of whistle, they opened the peak chair and i was able to get a few good runs in on the whistler bowl. I have to say the high altitude about 7000 feet, you get tired soo quick im talking under 30 seconds and your legs are just burning. But it is something cool to be skiing above the tree line. It definatly is the steepest slope ive ever skied...ill post the pick were you can see a guy holding the ledge of snow that you have to drop off to get into the bowl, it helps to give an idea of how steep it is!!! and then i took someother pics of the back side of bowl that takes you back down to the peak chair...its steep but not as steep.

First Two days @ Whistler

Sorry for the delay everyone, they want us to pay a million dollars for internet at the Hilton and I only just found out that they have a room with a computer in it...lol.

nyways the past two days have been amazing, blue sky, great weather and great skiing. As for my new boots we'll lets just say that yesterday was a little painfull. I got them punched out in whistler village today and they feel great.

As for skiing we did a run through of the venue yesterday and i got to see were all the cable im gonna be laying will be going and then we did some skiing.

So i have been to the top of whistler and man was it cold minus 20 and 50 mph winds...my hands went numb instantly, so we quickly dropped into the whistler bowl and skied our asses down lower. Then the guys all went out for drinks on the village and hit up, thanks for Shea the most expensive joint in town...can you say 8 dollar ryes...man i missed china!!! hahaha but the girls were way cuter. haha

As for today after getting my boots punched out and doing runs and then going back to get them punched again i finally got some skiing in...after doing some whis runs I decided i had to do the Peak to Peak gondola over to blackcomb, allthough its a completely pointless tram its is pretty cool. So then up to the peak of blackcomb for some non stop top to bottom leg busting runs down blackcomb. No i didn't stop and yes i kept making turns and wholy crap did my legs hurt by the end.

I have to say these have been two of the coolest days of my life, i would have cried tears of joy at the top but seeing how i already had a snotsicle and figure lets hold off of the tears...lol

The mountain really is everything they say it is so lets keep out fingers crossed that we get a dump of snow before i have to leave so i can see what true big mountain powder is really all about.

And no mom, i havn't killed myself yet.....

Oh and the drive to from vancouver to whistler is probably one of the most amazing drives i have ever been on i snapped some pics for you all to see...it really is out of this world!!!

Oh and i meet some awesome bus friends ill put thos up too!!!

Volley Ball Tourney

This was one of the coolest things i have ever done i think...NBC set up a volley ball tourney with 12 teams from NBC and we got to use the actual beach volleyball courts, 3 warm up courts and the finals court as we'll...IE the one that was broadcast around the world. Our team named the Splice Girls made it to the final court..allthough by the time the final game rolled around most of our team was too drunk to be affective and we succum to our own love for beer...lol. It was one of the greatest nights ive had hear or ever in my life so take a look at the pics!!!
